Topps – US – Revenge of the Sith Widevision (2005)

In a continuation of the theme that the 'circle is now complete' Topps brings collectors a widevision set, giving them at least one widevision set for each film. The set provides more than just a new format for enjoying the Sith film, it expands upon the first card set produced for Sith in meaningful ways.

Widevision cards provide a chance to see images as they appeared on screen, and a chance to see new images not yet available for the first set. Bothered by the extreme focus on Darth Vader for most products related to Sith? No worries with this card set. The film as a totality is covered, and covered with well chosen and dramatically displayed images.

If there was a mistake in the first Sith set, it was probably the extreme focus on Vader in the chase cards, stickers, tattoos, and even the packaging tins. Finally some of the other characters from this film are highlighted. Also highlighted is the wonderful talent of several Star Wars artists. Topps provides two sets (one hobby and one retail) of widevision chrome art cards, for a total of 20 beautifully rendered images. Unlike previous card sets that included art cards, this set has several different artists, each with a different style and interpretation of the Star Wars moments they capture.

The retail card set also includes 10 flix pix chase cards. Flix pix is a fancier form of 3D card technology, providing multiple views of a single character on each card. Even the backgrounds and lava highlights change. First seen in a Topps UK mini-set, flix pix technology is stunning on a widevision card.

Hobby collectors may well miss the chance to collect the fun flix pix cards, but Topps makes up for this by providing five different autographs to collect. Unfortunately, with low odds at receiving an autograph card, most collectors will not have a chance to add one of these autographs to their collection cheaply.
