K-Mart - Promotional Game Cards (2002)

Image

2002 was an interesting year for K-Mart. Almost mid-year they found they were required to declare bankruptcy to avoid going out of business. Hundreds of stores across the country were closed. Oh, and they ran a very quiet promotion for Episode II that managed to frustrate almost as many fans as it pleased.

As part of their Episode II promotions, K-Mart stores gave out Star Wars game cards with each Star Wars purchase. There were five different cards to collect, and each card was a scratch-off game piece with the potential to win Star Wars prizes. The problem with the promotion was that it was poorly advertised, and each store handled the game pieces completely differently. Some stores handed them out without a purchase. Some gave one card per store visit, while other stores gave them out with each Star Wars item purchased. There was also a difference at each store as to where the cards were handed out (the register or the help desk), and a few stores didn't even manage to have the cards.

Special thanks to Nakita for help with this set.
