I can't tell you what the prize (giveaway) for this contest will be just yet. I don't know exactly when they will arrive, or how many I will have. But at least a few people, and maybe quite a few people will be very happy they entered this contest.

This will be a random draw, but the way to be randomly drawn will be by replying to this post with a valid response. One entry per person please.

The challenge, write a response to this post that provides ONE positive recommendation to Topps for future card sets. Topics can be things like chase card ideas, wrapper ideas, website ideas, set ideas, or whatever would be something cool for them to do for collectors.

We know they've done a terrific job of listening to us for all the sets they are producing this year (ESB 3D anyone! 3 cards per $3 pack!) Let's challenge ourselves to come up with really cool suggestions for them to listen to for next year. Smiler

The contest will end unexpectedly at some point in the VERY near future (basically when the prizes arrive I'm going to make sure they get out right away by ending the contest and picking winners). So get your entry in NOW. If you are excited about the upcoming sets this year, you'll probably want this prize.

Open to any member of the site from any location.

Questions? PM me!

The prizes will be small, but cool.

If you are selected as a winner, be ready to reply to a PM or e-mail ASAP with your postal address. Don't count on me having it from some other contest or activity, since I'm seriously disorganized.

I would like Topps to give away 1 set of cards to each household of an active Military service person who is overseas and has a child that requests a set during the 2010 year.

Good one G-Man, our service men/women sacrafice years of their lives away from family & friends...more should be done to show support for their service!!!

I would really like to see Topps hold an amature "sketch contest", for upcoming sets. It would be a once in a lifetime opprotunity to get see one of my sketches (a nobody) included in a future Star Wars card set!! I know there is talent out there....some of the stuff put out by Topps' official artists can be pretty crummy, to put it mildly.

Following on after the ESB 3D set, I would like to see Topps put out a ROTJ 3D set in three years, and include at least one or two motion cards as promos or chase cards.

Did you guys here that the 501st opened up spots for the second series of 501st main legion cards today?

Don't expect them to be out for at least 8 weeks though. Probably more like 4 months.

Not counting this as an entry, I think it went in the wrong category!

I'd like to see a poll that people get to vote on one special card, kind of like the way Hasbro has their figure polls.

Plus, to be able to have a virtual set that reflects the cards I actually own would be cool!

Although they cost a lot to make and are very hard to acquire, I would like to see TOPPS:
- put out another finest refractor set! If not the whole set then how about 10 special refractor cards which would be part of a set. (2 per box)?
- a "deleted scenes" chase set (trilogy)?
- I would love a Family Guy: Something something something Darkside set now that inkworks is out of business.
- Redemtion card for special 5x7 artist sketch of whatever character you choose
- Gum (include gum, the smell of opening a pack of cards reminds me of my youth)

Some things that I would love to see:
- a new Chrome Archives set, perhaps a widevision version.
- An ESB Family Guy Set
- A Star Wars "Crossover" Set- in essence a card set that shows Star Wars themed moments from other shows/comics/movies like Family Guy, Simpsons, Robot Chicken, That 70's Show, Friends, etc... Star Wars has permeated our culture to such a large degree I think it would be a great tribute to the films.

Cool! I hope I get one.
I'm on a silver and gold kick right now.

How about some chase cards laced in real silver and gold. They would obviously be very special and rare chase cards but I think silver should be cheap enough to have at least one per case.

-OR-
Chase cards with redemption codes to use at the website. The prize could be anything but perhaps a card much like costume swatch cards except it it have a small (1 gram maybe?) silver or gold Star Wars medallion sealed in the card. Wouldn't that be cool! Maybe they could include those cards in the boxes.

That certainly would grab collector's attention and I would imagine boost sales.

My favorite cards ever were the ROTJ foils by McQuarrie - I love the red tint on them. They are quite awesome. I know the ROTS foils were very similar.

Would love more gold refractors - just stunning - although I still need 2 from the ones done in the last century.

Here's something new - sketch cards with actors signatures. So we get a sketch of Anakin done by Walks say, signed by Hayden Christianson.

I do like the way Dynamic forces do their autos where the picture fades at the base of the card so that the auto can be seen clearly. Much better than stickers. All autos to be numbered as DF always have.

That's enough from me, perhaps I will have another think.

Please, please, please - no more parallel gold, silver and bronze sets. I have no drive to collect these, although I love parallel sets. Does that make sense??

How about a contest that allows the winner (or winners) to choose an artist and/or scene of their choice?

I like autograph cards, but imagine that would be harder, if not impossible on some counts. Perhaps a list of possibilities for the winner to choose from? Or, better yet, a personalized message! (To Sam, Who Loves You, Baby?! XOXOXO Natalie Portman)

Sigh,

Sam

WOW, what would we want??

maybe a follow up to a couple of sets.

I liked the vehicles set, maybe they could follow it up with a weapons set or something like that.

or they could follow up the Heritage set. maybe they could place chase cards in the sets with a flashback type theme to them. (what an actor/crew member looked back then and what they look like now. maybe the card could have information on what they have been up to for the last 30+ years)

Topps could have a give-a-way. sent in 10 wrappers and get an exclusive card.

just ideas off the top of my head

Thanks Cathy for holding the contest!!!
Todd

PS. I also saw the contest on FACEBOOK

I think it would be neat if they'd do some kind of virtual collection with codes on the cards you can redeem online.
And possibly have stacking rewards so that maybe for 1 code you get an online card for an online album, 10 you get a wallpaper with card art of your choice from teh set and so on. Maybe after you get 100 (or more!) codes you can cash them in for physical limited edition cards or something "real" like that.

I would like topps to do for at least one set of costume card chase cards (sorta like the Lord of the Ring sets did). I would love to own an actual piece of star wars.

And I second the idea of sorta opening a blank sketch card that has been assigned to an artist. Then you can work (within restrictions) with the artist to get a sketch that you like.

I suggest that Topps create some kind of "Halloween Treat" that includes a few cards (or heck, a whole pack). It will be tough to market because Americans are so **** set on giving out disgusting candy, but it could lead to thousands of new collectors joining the ranks 8-)
They could do the same thing for Valentine's Day, Easter, and Christmas.

I love many of the ideas that have already been posted here. I would love to have the AOTC & ROTS both done in 3D as well as all 6 movies done in chrome with refractors as parallels and maybe CW chase 3D cards. How awesome would that set be???
Why not contest for collectors to draw a card in different age levels and make it an insert set of the winners cards?

I would like to see a special Star Wars card set dedicated to all movieposters that have been issued for all the six saga movies, also incl ewoks and the clone wars movie. As special chase card I would like a multimedia kind-a-card.
My idea: include a special insert card with a unique code that can be used on a specific internet site.
With this code you can order a sketch card from your favorite scene of character by a random artist. The artist is determined by the unique code you have, sketch you can choose yourself.
The card will be send to your home adress. I think this would be expensive, but this special card would be enough for me as the only chase card.

Also I would like to see a set of transparant plastic cards in widevision format of the original trilogy set (like big format movieshots sets from the 90's).

Just a few idea's but how nice if would be produced!!

I echo the same ideas of having a refractor parallel set rather than just those with different foils (i.e. 30th Anniversary). I also would like them serial numbered to no more than 500, but way more than 100. I also agree that it would be great to include some costume cards as I'm sure there are lots of those they could choose from with the 6 different movies. Rittenhouse did it with their Star Trek Complete Movies set and they were even serial numbered (though at much higher numbers than most collectors would have liked)...And please...enough of these sketches already. We need a break...I would like to see some more autographs from more of the actors. There are way to many that haven't signed yet that could.

Now, I never understood why when they did The Chrome Archives set, they never had a parallel refractor set. I think the idea of producing a Widevision Chrome Archives set is a great one just as long as it includes a parallel refractor set. Otherwise it would be pointless in my opinion. They do it with almost all of their sportcards, why not with their biggest Non-sports license where it being a refractor makes more sense?

I have always loved the mail-away promotions from the vintage wrappers, uncut sheets, binders, storage boxes, etc. Would love something of the like to come back. And after reading some of the other ideas, I love the idea of 5x7 sketch cards, special relic/costume/prop cards. Ive seen em in so many other sets, and would love to own something that unique(even something as a small swatch of a screen worn costume--and yes I know that borderlines sacrilege to even think of cutting up a actual costume).
Also like the idea of special redemption cards that can be used for various items(sets, sheets, binders, exclusive code only merchandise)

I would like to see more autographs. Maybe along the lines of the recently released LOST Seasons 1 thru 5 from Rittenhouse Archives. They had over 40 actors sign cards and guaranteed three per box. Also costume cards would be really cool.

They need to do a screen used cards like jersey cards or bat cards in baseball.

Could you imagine a Han Solo New Hope Jersey card!!! Just a wild thought but I think it would be cool.

Luke Skywalker New Hope boot cards...lol

Some of the ideas above sounds good to me:

deleted scenes cards (I enjoy looking at pictures of scenes that were cut out)

costume cards (I know lucasfilm probably won't go for it, but what about leftover swags from specific costumes? Assuming any are left lying around!)

crossover sets (I always love getting oddball cards: SW cards in non-SW sets, so this sounds good)

Now my 2 ideas:

This is a reasonable idea that can happen and might make the colletors happy: different level boxes of cards for the same set: easy for those who want things simple and for kids, easy boxes will be the cheapeast boxes too (common set with or without very low level chase cards), medium boxes for those who wants some chasing, but not too much (contains medium chase cards along with easy box cards), sketch boxes for sketch card collectors (sketch cards along with easy box cards), challenge boxes for those who want the challenge (all of the boxes along with hard to put together chase cards).

Nearly impossible idea: you know those 3D projector from the later movies showing a spaceship and you can hold the 3D holoprojector in your hand? Well, one of those and you can add memory cards or download the virtual cards to that projector and see your set of cards.

Thanks for the contestSmiler

I think Topps should produce sets for the two Ewok spin-off movies: The Ewok Adventure, and The Battle for Endor. They could do a retro / classic version like the original Star Wars cards with stickers, a widevision version with some cool chase cards, and a regular up-to-date style version with more cool chase cards with autograph and sketch cards. dcarleton

A lot of great ides.

For me, it would be:
1)ESB and ROTJ 3D widevision sets
2)Less gimmicks but some ideas on crossover, custom sketch cards are intriguing.
Thank you.

One idea is to introduce another different chase card level in both retail and hobby that can be inexpensive and desireable. Introduce ACTUAL film cells cut and inserted onto a card.

A film card is easily identifiable to draw in children and people unfamiliar with trading cards. "Own a REEL piece of the film !!" "Collect your favorite scene !!" Since props and costumes for Star Wars is off-limits, it's the next best thing. It's nostalgic, unique and something that will stand out. Frankly, it feels and looks like something special to a child that won't be so expensive and adult collector oriented like sketches or autographs.

One set of all 6 movies + Clone Wars can go a long way given the miles of film. Film Cell cards in releases can be grouped by movie, characters, scenes, etc. Have MORE for the retail side, as autographs / sketches / parallels support the hobby side. You can even added the dreaded "parallel" levels to the film cells by numbering and foil stamping for hobby collectors. Hobby: 1:24 packs, set of 9 - Something for dealers to sell to make up bad sketches/auto. Retail: 1:12, set of 9 - Enough to collect & odds work with current blister & bonus box formats. The nostalgic look like the SW 30th retail magnets with a modern twist would be ideal. The 9 card format is preferred because it fills standard storage sheets. Being shy 1 card from a set encourages trading & secondary markets while maintaining some worth.

While the upfront cost of securing the films might be a little pricey and manufacturing costs may be higher like costume or prop cards, picking a standard design and a continuous insert set style will average the cost if released over future sets. Topps mostly makes stand alone sets, but having a chase level carry across multiple sets won't hurt for this concept as the entire film will be captured. Place some in Galaxy 6, Star Wars Finest 2, or ROTJ 30th ... all good. To simplify production & multiple set distribution, no card numbers. "SW-Opening Credits" or "SW-Attack on Death Star" can serve as informative text and title, with approximate time index & sound-bytes as fun facts on the back.

One off the wall idea to bring set-up & procurement costs down, pitch the idea to George to have a limited set produced as a LFL holiday stocking stuffers or corporate gifts to partners (1 movie each year). Use a replicated Star Wars w/ Title cell card and an ACTUAL film cell card titled "SW-End Credits" in a custom bi-fold. LFL can sort by actor, production group, etc. for custom distribution. Wouldn't an animator or crew want thier own personal moment on screen? Ford, Fisher, Hammil can keep or auction for charity? The rest of the minutes of leftover credits (no waste now) ... make as case topper set. It would be a turn-off to pack pull an end credit, but make it a case topper and us OCD completists go crazy getting every minute of film. LFL employees get their nod & holiday gifts, Topps gets a donated film reel or subsidized set-up cost, non-sketch fans like me get something else to collect than boring parallel sets that rare too large and/or costly.

Last two production selling points. 1) Because film is by design machine fed, manufacturing can be simpler and highly automated. 2) Once a printing process is developed, it can be incoporated into all movie film projects .... possibly Avatar anyone??

Idea from a non-sketch collector seeing his 5 year old son picking Finding Nemo cell packs everytime I drag him to a card store. The promos & cards I give him ... all bent and scattered. Finding Nemo cells are neatly next to the flashight.

Thanks Cathy for the contest, and thanks Topps for starting to open-up to fan comments.

I think Topps could have insert cards (artist or otherwise) that are part of unique 3-card picture puzzles. A code on the back of each card would reveal a digital copy of the card on the Topps website. A matched set fully revealed would allow the participants to register to receive some rare bonus card or binder. This would draw lots of collectors to their website to find the other parts of the puzzle they wouldn't normally see because someone else has it (like on some of the artist puzzle cards). Collectors would also see everyone else's registered cards so that everyone could enjoy.

I suggest to Topps that when they are conceiving the number of cards for sets, chase sets and what not, they keep in mind how we keep our sets.

I put my sets in binders, therefore, it would be great to have standard sized card sets in multiples of 9 and widevision sets in multiples of 6.

I'm really happy that ESB WV will be a 48 card set, it will fit in 8 6-pocket binder pages. Now that is thinking.

Like the foil Galaxy sets from series 4 and upcoming series 5. To display 15 cards in 9-pocket pages is not right.

Just a little more thought put into it, no extra expense.

Also, still waiting for Attack of the Clones WV chrome cards. Feel cheated that of all the movie WV sets, that was the only one without chrome producion art chase cards!!!

.02 deposited!!

I think that Topps should have as a redemption card a George Lucas Autograph card. Not a cut one like the 30th Anniversary set, but a genuine signed to a card autograph from the man himself. They could do one per 2 cases or so and have it as a mail in. The Redemption card should be returned with some sort of a cancelation to it, like a hole punched in the corner or such. This way collectors who pull one can mail it in and still have the redemption card to collect as well.

Another idea is for topps to make the hobby edition cards available on their website for collectors. I know there are no outlets where I can find the hobby edition cards except through sellers on ebay who sell them for more than what a hobby store would.

I do not like the 1 of a kind items, like the 3 cut autos which were in the 30th Anniversary set. Yes, they would be great to pull while opening the hundreds of packs, but I have yet to hear if anyone has pulled any of these. If so it is probably some kid with the Lucas cut auto in his bicycle spokes. I cringe at the thought.

Set idea, how about a set that features merchandise from the last 33 years. I was thinking an action figure card set would be cool. Even better, they could be double sided cards with the vintage figure on one side and there modern counterparts on the other.

I'm all in for a finest set featuring the prequel trilogy as well. Either that or an all characters set.

I think we have enough of parallels and 1/1 cards for now, focus on simple sets, that'll keep alot of collectors in the hobby in my honest opnion.

Here are a few suggestions I would love to see in the future:

1. A full set of the Holiday Special.

2. A main character actor (Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, etc.) doing 2000+ autographs so for at least one set their auto is somewhat available to almost anyone.

3. A set of chase that has raised features (like the Topps RotS Embossed Foil cards) where each card is unique, but the FRONTS form a larger picture from the raised features when put together. Something that you lay out and can only clearly see from 10 feet away.

4. A chase set that recognizes the existence of Decipher's SWCCG, Young Jedi TCG, Jedi Knights TCG, and Wizards of the Coast's SWTCG and Miniatures by reprinting selected cards from those games. The backs could contain pertinent information about the history and tenure of those games, and perhaps these would strike a renewed interested in SW gaming.

5. Printing a set where the wrappers themselves are also collectible, very similar to the Sugar Free Gum idea from the '70s.

Just a few thoughts....comments definitely welcome.

WOW! Love some of the ideas that have been tossed out there already! Here's my two cents...

How about a set that focuses on the production of the films. It could have cards focused on John Williams and the film scores, John Dystra and Dennis Murren and the special effects, and of course, a George Lucas autograph card! Smiler

Wow, some great ideas out there, some very expensive ones at that!

For me though, being that I absolutely love SW video games, I would love to see an exclusively SW video games set. I would love a whole set of production sketches, glitches, screen shots, etc. and have 3D chase cards that replicate a screen shot from a game! I would say have cheat codes (like the old Nintendo cards) and what-not but most of the games I'm thinking of are over a decade old hehe.

Just another thought, but maybe even a set based purely on the old Marvel SW comics. I think it would be amazing to finally have a card with Jaxxon on it. Maybe make them look vintage with cardboard backs. For chase, maybe have artist and writer autographs and on the card say what they did and on what issues. Just some simple sets without the destruction of original costumes/props because just the thought makes me cringe. Though I would love to own a piece of the Death Star used in the trench run scenes Smiler

Something I always liked as a kid was the puzzles that were on the back of the cards. Makes it a bit more fun for kids to collect.

Topps kinda did this with the galaxy etched foil cards, but would be great to have a large puzzle on the backs again.

Cheers

So many great ideas. Hope I don't duplicate anyone but here are a couple thoughts I had.

I loved the behind the scenes ones from the 1977 series.

Maybe a "Where are they now" series where the back would tell a little of what the actor has done since the movie(s).

Or a set with anecdotes from the actors.

And yes, I 2nd the idea of sets where the number of cards fit evenly in the pages.

I like a lot of the ideas but I did not see this one though it may be more in the Cardimundi realm. An insert set or a way to win, send away for with a certain number of wrappers for a Sabacc set. I know the values would not change like in the novels and such but it might be fun to play.

I haven't read all of the suggestions here, so I'm sorry if my AWESOME idea is a duplicate of someone else's suggestion Wink

My idea is for a Star Wars Card Collector's club, in which we could purchase exclusive items like SW collecting binders, subsets, get unique promo cards, etc. I wouldn't be opposed to paying for membership in such a club...

So there's my bit. Am I in?

Here are mine:

1 - Any chance of relic/costume cards???

2 - ROTJ 3d set on the 30th anniversary of the movie.

3 - Episode II and III 3d sets on their 10th anniversaries (or whenever!)

With Star Tours getting revamped, how about a set (or subset) dealing with the story/history of the ride? Maybe another nostalgia set, dealing with the old cartoons like Ewoks and Droids, could fit in with this theme, as well.

Thanks!

I'd like to see a series of cards on the Kenner action figures. You've got a 100+ card set just with the original figures. (One subsets could highlight variations, kinda like the Evolutions subset cards showed repeat characters in different attire.)

One of the neatest things about the vintage sets is the behind the scenes coverage. I'd love to see subsets of shots behind the scenes. You could have a green-screen subset, a digital animators subset.... Perhaps a John Williams subset (I'm not sure what that would look like, but Star Wars fans are John Williams fans.)

I'd like Topps to revisit the letter-shaped stickers....

Wrappers could be traded in for a bonus chase card (one per household, etc., etc.)

Maybe some codes on the inside of the wrappers to go online to play mini-games (even something dorky like Solitaire with Star Wars cards or Concentration with vintage cards....)

I thought of another idea for codes on the inside of wrappers -- get access to printables for binders. They could have downloadable picture files for the cover and spine....

Topps could bring out a series celebrating the most popular individual characters(maybe decided via a collectors vote!), maybe 5 to 10 cards per character showing there development and appearances through out the many card series from the very beginning to the present.

Or a series showing character development through prototype concept drawings to the final character, not just with characters but also spacecraft, bases, planets etc....

thanks....

1 - Any chance of relic/costume cards???

As I understand it this has been something Topps wanted to do but getting items from the Lucasfilm Archives is next to impossible right now.

I, too, would like to see some artifact cards, similar to those Harry Potter cards by Inkworks. They could include costume swatches, pieces of memorabilia, etc. Also, keep the autographs! I love them. They give us a chance to get some autographs from actors who don't normally attend conventions. Thanks Topps!

I'd like to see a card set from "STAR WARS Episode VII: Enemy Within" displaying pics of the new movie in production. I don't know where I got the title from but the thought of Episode VII being produced would be nice.

NOTE: I saw this on Facebook :-)

I'm a big fan of symmetry in my collection. So we need an Episode I standard-size card set and ROTJ, ROTS, AOTC 3D WV sets. Somebody beat me to it, but I would also be very interested in a video game set.

I also know what a hit-or-miss proposition the sketch cards are. Perhaps they could include a voucher in the packs (they've done it in the past, for example with Galaxy 1 and 2 autograph cards) and you could get a low level card for no additional money and then have tiers for nominal amounts of money for mid and high level quality cards. While it would definitely hurt their business model, it would be much more collector friendly. And then ebay wouldn't be so ridiculous. I know I've stopped by boxes because I'm worried I'd end up with a crappy sketch.

The Contest is now CLOSED.

If you entered, and are one of the lucky names drawn (sorry - 100% random) you will need to respond to my e-mail or PM (depending on contact options you permitted to the site) within 3 days with your shipping information (name and address).

I will then ship out to you ONE promo card.

The card? It's the very hard to get P1 promo card for ESB 3D.

This card was originally distributed by Topps to Card Distributors only. All those great folks who decide if they want to buy cases and cases of cards in the hopes that comic stores and shops (and sometimes us) want to buy boxes and boxes of cards from them.

The attached image does not do this card justice. When they say the images on these cards are 'more' 3D than the original card set, they mean it! POP. And it looks good from every angle. Really good. Amazingly thin. Really good looking. May (June?) can't get here soon enough.

If you were a winner in this contest, YOU are one of a very few people to own this card. I only found one on ebay.

How cool is that? Pretty cool. A huge thank you to the folks who made this little contest possible.
