Apparently we'll hear about this new Topps set soon. Pending release date is October 2009. Must coincide with Season 2 debut or something.

Here's the blurb at NSU:

Next issue...

20th Anniversary Issue! Celebrate NSU's 20th Anniversary with our Oct/Nov issue. The issue will feature a great original art cover by Brian Kong and Jim Kyle. And many of our departments will take a nod towards the milestone. Editor-in-Chief Alan Biegel has polled NSU experts for a feature on great cards for not a lot of money - see what's made the list! Plus, news on Spider-Man Archives and Star Wars Clone Wars Widevision . The issue will contain The Complete Twilight Zone and Stargate Heroes promos from Rittenhouse Archives and maybe a couple of others.. Also, don't miss the variant issue produced for the 9th Annual Chicagoland Entertainment Collectors Expo taking place Sept 10 & 11 in Carol Stream, IL. Pre-orders are being accepted now for those who can't make the show.

Don't know what to think about this yet...

Let's also hope Topps puts a little more QA into this set. We surely don't deserve another Galaxy IV mess @ $3.00 a pack!!

I love the widevision sets - lets hope there are no Mace Windu short printed auto cards in this one.

There is also a Galaxy V set due out towards the end of the year, so brace yourselves for some nice releases. Lets hope again they move away from gold silver bronze chase cards they are getting a bit tedious!

If I were to guess, Topps will get the Clone Wars WV out in time for the 2nd season and the Galaxy IV would be delayed, again

Previews website has some info about the set:

http://previewsworld.com/publi...c=23&s=130&sn=401341

"The Clone Wars is a mega success! The first season of Cartoon Network's new Star Wars series ranked #1 for all television (broadcast and cable) with boys 6-11. Topps gives The Clone Wars the full treatment by presenting it in the fan-favorite Widevison format, featuring 80 oversized 2 1/2" x 4 11/16" cards, showing every scene as it was meant to be seen - the entire wide-screen image, with every detail in-place. Multiple levels of super-collectible inserts include Foil Character Cards (1:3 packs), Animation Cel Clear Cards (1:4 packs), Motion Cards (1:8 packs), Sequentially-Numbered Silver Foil-Stamped Parallels (numbered to 500), and 1/1 Gold Foil-Stamped Parallels and Sketch Cards (1 per box). Additionally, Topps will be including as Hobby-only inserts Animator Sketch Cards and Voice-Actor Autographs. 7 cards per pack, 24 packs per box. "

I could do very well without most of those chase cards. Why must they continue to load up their releases with all this nonsense? This will be another set where my definition of completeness will be considerably short of the full list.

I'm sure this won't be the case, but I really hope they don't overdo it on the sketch cards. I'd like to see each artist involved doing a good number of cards, so that everyone who wants one by a certain artist can get one without breaking the bank.

Well, I think they are going overboard on the chase cards again, but I don't think that trend is going to reverse anytime soon.

I was excited thinking about how cool widevision sketches would be, until I realized I never pull any good sketches. The thought of some of my pulls being done on a widevision card actually makes me ill.

I'll have to seriously think about how much of this product I really want to get.

I have to agree that the 1/1 parallels are just a bit silly.

While I'm happy to collect a set with only the most common chase cards, I feel the frustration of those who want to collect a more complete set. Getting even a sample of a 1/1 card is difficult and expensive, and I don't think it helps the hobby much to have them.

Some images and more info have finally leaked, I found this link via NSU's Cardtalk:

Clone Wars Widevision

Also this extra info on the autos comes from the same NSU thread:

1 Matt Lanter/Anakin Skywalker
2 James Arnold Taylor/Obi-Wan Kenobi
3 Ashley Eckstein/Ahsoka Tano
4 Catherine Taber/Padmé Amidala
5 Tom Kane/Yoda
6 Anthony Daniels/C-3PO
7 Corey Burton/Count Dooku
8 Ian Abercrombie/Chancellor Palpatine
9 Terrence Carson/Mace Windu
10 Nika Futterman/Asajj Ventress
11 Matthew Wood/Battle Droids
12 David Acord/A-4D Droid
13 Dee Bradley Baker/Clone Troopers

Do not know if this is definitive list of signers.

I find it hard beleive topps will keep this set at $2 a pack, I hope they do, another Galaxy 4 price switch wouldn't be good for the Star Wars trading card license imho. There are already presell listings on ebay at the $2 a pack price.

Darn, I'm getting sucked in again.

I have to say, the standard card images shown in the sample look good.

Why, with September just days away this set info isn't on either Topps site or starwars.com is a bit frustrating.

I like that there are clear cel cards again. That technology has potential. I guess I'll go order myself some cards!

I've been looking and haven't found a decent price to pre-order a few boxes. The person I use to get these from is no longer in business so I've had to go via EBay for the last few sets. Can someone send me info on somewhere were I can get a few boxes at a decent price? It would be much appreciated!

If a site isn't selling something to people (and thereby getting free advertising when links are posted here) you can totally post links to it. Rebelscum, the SW site, the card forums at NSU or even various other card sites where it isn't pointing directly to a card dealer's ad in some way.

Really.

We just get folks who are card dealers or stores or whatever trying to use the site as a way to make money for themselves (not really to share info) and it is hard to weed those folks out, if we don't also prohibit the good folks from posting links to commercial sites.

Trying to be ad free is hard. I took down the ads that defrayed the site costs (this is not a free hosting kindof thing) so having someone else make money when I'm spending money for them to do it, ick.

But images of the sketches - cool. News about stuff - cool. Sites where people are selling stuff - not cool.

By the way is there any way of supporting this website ? If so, please PM. I would be happy to help.

I didn't know that there are 2 different backs for sketch cards, one for retail and one for hobby.

You can also see other sketch cards as the artists release approved them in scoundrel art community:

http://scoundrelpublishing.com...491d8b4992b2f2d728b8

Lots of chatter from artists, artist breakdown by # of cards, returns, retail, etc. Interesting.

There are other topics there for all the other SW sketch card sets, Indiana Jones, LOTR, etc.

David

Looking like some fairly neat sketches for the set. Some new artists whose name I don't know shown there. Interesting stuff. Of course, we always get to preview the best! Smiler

Not sure I like retail and hobby sketch backs being different. Seems mean to the completionists. But who can say.

I hate the sketches having different backs, sketches in retail, whats that about? Glad I got out of collecting every sketch artist a while back or I'd be walking out the door on this set, shame because, with the exception of the stupidly rare inserts, I am liking the look of this set so far.

Man, Topps has done a really poor job on advertising this set if you ask me! No promo cards, very little info on odds and exactly who's signing. In a time when the American economy is in the dumper, you would think Topps would be doing everything possible to sell their product. Maybe they had to cut the entire advertising section? I could be wrong, maybe cases are selling out and this set will be very sucessful by saying little, but I've talked to a lot of people that didn't even know this set was coming out. Come on Topps, what happened to your advertising department? PROMOS PROMOS PROMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm seeing dates in November from most card suppliers at the moment.

Maybe they are just guessing Topps will be late, or maybe they have been told this by Topps. No idea, since no one from Topps has bothered to contact the site in any way.

A shame really, with a built in audience wanting to know what cool cards will be coming out and when. Oh well.

Silly question, but it's been so long since I've done it, I need to ask: How/Where does one buy hobby boxes now? The two times I've bought them have been through the link on this site, which doesn't exist anymore. (Told ya it's been a while.) With the autograph possibilities for this set, I think I'll buy a box.

Thanks,

Lots of options. The store we used to have a relationship with still exists. They just don't support the site anymore because they dropped their affiliate program. I personally wish they would bring it back, but so far, no luck in that area. I think a few people will probably e-mail you or IM you with suggested stores they use. Use reasonable caution in taking recommendations. Some dealers show up with packs or boxes on ebay as well.

Also, Target, TRU, and Walmart will generally carry the retail version of the cards.

Physical comic book card shops in your area may carry the cards, but you should phone and ask. They sometimes only order what people ask them to stock.

I'm thinking back, and I can't remember a single card set that was ever once issued on the originally announced date. Not even when the dates are printed on the promo cards.

Can anyone remember a set that was released on time?

I kindof share everyone's frustration, but really, I just always assume Topps' sets will be released about a month after the original announced date.

It's one reason I never pay for next day shipping!

Opened up my case last night---

Some of the sketches were amazing with the widevision aspect-- others not so much -- it was like the artists werent used to that much space---

Pulled 4 Autos in the one case (one was a duplicate)-- but since its roughly one every 2.5 boxes I guess I got lucky.) All of the auto cards have a different background color scheme-

Got the one animator sketch card-- which sad to say I think was one of the lower sketches out of what I got..

THe silver foil ones-- are a little silver helmet in the corner of the card-- an unecessary throw in if you ask me--

Took me 4 boxes before I completed the 20 card foil set...

I think once some of the better sketches are highlighted-- these boxes will pick up in value-

Biggest complaint- I am glad Topps finally put a spot on the back for the artists to put their name-- but if you are an artist-- why the heck would you write a sloppy signature-- so I still dont know who did it..

I don't think they are supposed to hit retail until this Friday, the 20th.

I got two Hobby boxes today and opened them. My reaction is some good and some bad. The base cards look good, as do the chase cards. However, the collation wasn't good, since I got the same chase cards in both boxes - the same 8 clear cel cards, the same 12 foil cards and the same 3 motion cards. I'll be looking to trade with someone who has the ones I need. I also got three silver foil stamped cards, which was good. However, one of my two boxes didn't have a sketch card (one pack only had 6 basic cards so I'm guessing that's where the sketch card was supposed to be). I'll be calling Topps tomorrow morning to ask them to send me one, since the wrappers clearly say each Hobby box will include a sketch card.

How did everyone else do?

Here is the chase cards list :

FOIL CARD SET = 20
FLIX PIX MOTION CARD SET = 5
ANIMATION CEL CARD SET = 10
SEASON 2 SNEAK PREVIEW CARD SET = 8
HOBBY AUTOGRAPH SET = 7

I don't have any more details, sorry...

RETAIL AUTOGRAPH SET = 2

There are so many Dud Boxes out there (no sketch) that it is scandalous ! Shame on Topps, once again...

I just called Topps. Here is what they told me:

1. To get a missing sketch card you have to send them a letter of explanation, the UPC code from the box, several wrappers, and a copy of the receipt or invoice for the box.

2. The Collector Kit including the binder will not be up on the website for a week or two. They are having "technical problems". Hah!

And I have a question for all of you. Is there a list of names of all the sketch artists and all the animator sketch artists somewhere? I have yet to locate it. Thanks.

Sorry, one other thing. I saw a list somewhere that showed 13 autograph names. However, the hobby boxes only have 7 as near as I can tell. Are the other 6 going to be in retail boxes? Since someone on this thread said there would be 2 auto cards in retail packs, I'm confused.

Actually I think Ive done pretty good--

Opened 22 boxes total

Got a sketch card in every box-- (2 of them animators)-- Id say 6 are excellent-- and 2 that the artist and topps should be ashamed of including in this set--

And I still have a problem with artists who either dont write their name on the back- or think they are doctors.

Also pulled 9 autos and lost count of the silver foil cards-- but I think I averaged around 1.75 a box..

I found the retail set at my local Target today. They are in a gravity feed box so you can't cherry pick the ones from specific places in the box. I note the odds of getting a sketch in the retail packs is 1:48 according to the wrappers, rather than 1:24 in the Hobby. Further, the odds of getting an autograph card are 1:174 versus 1:67 in the Hobby. The odds for the easier chase cards are all the same as for Hobby. Is there any reason to buy the retail cards other than convenience? Do they contain different auto cards or anything?

I got my two boxes yesterday
I got a David Rabbitte Sketch of R2-D2 and a Jessica Hickman sketch of a battle droid. I was disappointed in the Chase card distribution due to both boxes had the same foil, Motion and Clear plastic cards.

Any chance you and I got different chase cards from each other so we can trade some and come closer to completion? My list is on the trading thread.

How can you tell the animator sketch cards from the regular artist sketch cards? Is there something on them that identifies them?

They are stamped with animator sketch, same as with the last clone wars set.

I'm all the way in Germany and didn't expect mine for another week or two at least but they were at the post office waiting for me yesterday! I only got 2 Hobby boxes this time and have a few retail on order but I don't know if I am impressed or not with this set. I did manage to get an animators sketch but it's not very good......pencil and looks like Picachu from Pokemon.....ugggg! Is it me or are most of the animator cards pretty low quality compared to the sketch artists? I must say it is about time TOPPS offers collector's binders again, even thou they are not yet available.......and there is that promo card everyone was wondeBox 2:ring about. Looks like you buy binders now and you get the promos....no free promos anymore????

Here's my pulls:

Box 1:
- (x1) Artist Sketch Ted Dastick Jr (Padme
shoulders up view) in pen
- (x1) Silver Foil Stamped
- (x6) Clear Cel(2 were dups)
- (x10)Foil (0 dups)
- (x12) Season 2 Preview (7 dups)
- (x4) Motion (1 Dup)
- (x24) Binder Coupon
- (x1) Sale Poster (sheet)

Box 2:
- (x1) Animator Sketch "Tim Brock" (sketch looks like Picachu from pokemon) in pencil
- (x1) Autograph (anakin)
- (x2) Silver Foil Stamped
- (x6) Clear Cel (2 were dups)
- (x10) Foil (2 dups)
- (x12) Season 2 Preview (9 dups)
- (x2) Motion (no Dups)
- (x24) Binder Coupon
- (x1) Sale Poster (sheet)

All in all I got good pulls except for the sketches but I guess I can't complain. For those that did not buy the boxes and want the collectors binder w/promo card, the code for 15% off is Booster15
Final price with the discount is $16.95 but expires 31 March 2010 if TOPPS can manage to get it up on their site by then!!!! Good luck on your pulls!!!!!!

I got an email from Topps saying the delay is because they are waiting for the final signed licensing and approval documents from LucasFilm. They expect to be ready to go by the end of November.
